About Me

My name is Jamilla (juh-mil-uh), she/her.

I am forever impressed, fascinated, curious, and enamored by our connections to each other and the world around us. I grew up with dreams of being a teacher. Teaching special education taught me how to care for people in some of their most vulnerable moments as well as the importance of nourishing my physical, mental, and emotional self.

As a curious observer and “life scientist” I am drawn to the experiences that shape people. It is no secret that BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and women face more on a daily basis. If these experiences can affect things as small as the outfit we wear, imagine the effect they have on the stress held in our body and birthing outcomes.

My quest for learning led me to doula work. Connecting with others in community opened my world up to so much more.

On Mary Jane’s Couch named after my great-grandmother, your feelings, words, and experiences matter. I can’t wait to work with you!
